Diane Lequar shares with the Diego Voci Project Team; “My husband remembers his parents telling stories about buying Diego’s works (between 1974 and 1983) and visiting a gallery in Wiesbaden, but nothing about them actually spending time with the artist. We did find a folder filled with sales receipts and brochures associated with Diego works they purchased — some for themselves and some for friends and family back in the U.S. There is a set of polaroid photos of 9 Diego works we had in our possession at some point.  Attached are images of the backs of the 3 paintings you asked for. We included the sales receipts in the photographs when we had them.” 
Diane continues; “The person who has Avec Visage and the 2 images of old men must have purchased them when we moved to our new house and thinned the collection. I’ve attached original sales receipts for those 3 in case you need them or the current owner wants them.
In other good news, we went down to the basement and found an additional Diego painting — Smiling Clown.  Photos attached.  Clowns scare my daughter, and I forgot we had this one. (Please note that the inscription on the back of this one was added by my father-in-law after the fact. He had quite the sense of humor.)”

Carol Bachofner shares her internationally collected artist Diego Voci story;

“I own two original Diegos’ purchased in 1973 through Naffouj Gallery, in Landstuhl, Germany. I bought two large ones at the time at an art show through Naffouj Gallery. The exhibit was held at the “General Von Steuben” Hotel in Wiesbaden and Diego Voci (VOH-chee 1920-1985) was there in person.

I later visited Diego at his home in Germany and purchased another small watercolor painting on wood directly from him. The colorful one on wood is a village scene. The other one is of a Pueblo village in the American southwest where Diego said he’d traveled. These are original and are signed by Diego. My two large Diego paintings are with me in Maine.”

DIEGO VOCI PRECURSOR TO #BASQUIAT?

Amazingly this painting by internationally collected artist Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985) appeared this year for sale online for $150. Basquiat aficionados at first sight declared it to be a Basquiat, if so he (Basquiat) would have only been 6 years old. See the (above & below) similar impromptu strokes of the brush bringing unrelated shapes and lines together in a strangely beautiful work of art.

Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) artworks are in demand by the big time art collectors worldwide, selling in the millions of dollars to acquire. Once a lover of #AndyWarhol, Museums covet Basquiat / Warhol collaborative works.

NOTE: Coop Cooprider, Diego Voci Historian, has certified the work shown here as authentic Diego, circa 1966 that’s when Diego left the prestigious Schlossgalerie in Zurich, and moved to Germany, home of his lover and wife to be Helga Drossler. Helga Voci, Diego’s widow still living in Germany confirmed “Yes”, it’s a Diego. He was always experimenting.” There he affiliated with 2 galleries, Naffouj Gallery in Landstuhl and Galerie Dahms in Wiesbaden. The Diego work shown here is one of the very first with the “Diego” signature. Joy Naffouj convinced Diego that since “he” is known by Diego, sign the work “Diego”.
