DIEGO & HORSES! He loved the majestic presence, the powerful muscles showing their strength, and the images he’d seen be Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci. Diego felt the power.
Each work created here by DIEGO VOCI shows how Versatility was Diego’s strength. Driven to experiment in every genre while remaining distinctly Diego.
In 1974 #DIEGO was invited to participate in the 12th Annual BENEDICTINE Art Awards in #NY (USA). #DIEGO showed no interest. The Diego Voci Historian, Coop Cooprider, offered to buy DIEGO’s creation in advance, on the condition it would be submitted to the #BENEDICTINE event. DIEGO agreed. DIEGO had complete freedom on what to paint.
This 1974 full image (30″ x 24″ sand based paint on canvas- BELOW) with the 14″ BENEDICTINE bottle shows the result as submitted to the BENEDICTINE event.

Look closely at this close up (BELOW) of the 14″ BENEDICTINE bottle
Now look closely (BELOW) at the second full image 30″ x 24″ of the same painting. What happened to the BENEDICTINE bottle? It’s gone!
When DIEGO learned he did not win, he retaliated, and obliterated the BENEDICTINE bottle and its labels. Before the Diego Voci Art Historian, Coop Cooprider could pick up the paid-in-advance “BENEDICTINE” painting, DIEGO had clandestinely painted out all evidence of his disappointing BENEDICTINE experience. DIEGO transformed the BENEDICTINE bottle into a 14″ pink pitcher adding a handle (see ABOVE).

Helga Voci, (widow of DIEGO Voci) shares the behind the scenes in these photos of DIEGO.
“These 2 photos were taken in Diego’s studio in Taunusstein, Germany sometime in the 80’s. This was his easel and the place where he spent most of his time.”
Versatility was Diego’s strength. Driven to experiment in every genre while remaining distinctly DIEGO.

Diego Voci; “Enfants en Hiver” #1151-390 oil on canvas 60x70cm
“Bundle up! Mothers all around the world say to kids when they go out to play in the cold winter months and don’t forget your mittens”!
It’s been known that a hat on your head keeps your body warm!
The East Coast in the United States has been experiencing days and days of cold weather.
This image is an old polaroid of “Enfants en Hiver” was purchased back in 1975 by Major Eller in Frankfurt, Germany. Where is the owner of this painting now?

In January 1965, DIEGO had an exhibition at the Schlossgalerie in #Zurich, #Switzerland.
Notice the reference to the name in the “Neue Züricher Zeitung” newspaper ad “Antonio Voci” not “DIEGO”.
Helga Drössler had been with DIEGO for five years. Thereafter he mostly signed“DIEGO”. Helga and DIEGO married in #Denmark in 1968.
Notice the style. #Realism. Both different from the works DIEGO Collectors are familiar with. It illustrates his #versatility and #craftsmanship (#Picasso painted realism when he first began. So did #Dali).
