Diego Voci; “Les Odalisques” oil on canvas; “We know surprising little about this, one of the most identifiable Diego paintings. Les Odalisques dates from the 1970s. It was a very large painting but the exact size is not known.” – Chris Voci

“THIS ARTIST IS A LION”

On this day, August 10, we celebrate the 98th birthday of internationally collected artist Antonio “Diego” Voci (1920-1985).

TV Guide Cover Published May 1974

I am Coop Cooprider, Diego Voci Historian. I first met Diego in late 1966. Patti and I bought our first Diego oil painting on layaway, our first of many. We were and remain addicted https://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-history-4330818/Page7.html#98597.  In 1973-74, I volunteered for a year to help Diego become better known. One of those efforts was the 3-page biography in the May 1974 issue of the AFNTV Guide by my ghost writer Victoria Williams.

$30,000 REWARD
“The Clown” pictured above was stolen about 1980 from what was then my office in Otterbach, Germany. There is a reward of $30,000 for its return. See “The Clown” in color in the video by Stephen Max: https://youtu.be/T3ODYMxxBdc

#MAX AND #DiegoVoci™ PART ONE

Stephen and Wendy Max, collectors of DiegoVoci™ works of art and past exclusive agent for #Diego’s works in #Canada.

Stephen shares his personal experience;

Image of Stephen Max

“It’s difficult to find the right words to describe the association and friendship

with this great artist (DiegoVoci™) and his immediate family.

Our association which developed and flourished for more than a decade, now seems like a “blink of an eye”.

Our family travelled to Germany in 1971 with The RCAF to serve in Baden- Soellingen.  Initially we lived in the city of Rastatt and soon after our arrival relocated to the Married Quarters area in the village of Weitenung. Our three children were educated in the Base Baden school system and life there was exciting with travel as a primary focus during our tour.

Originally we were to serve a three year engagement which by our choice developed into a five year stay in Germany. During that time, Wendy and I became aware of and interested in the art of Diego and his works.”

Our first exposure to DiegoVoci™ came through the TV guide cover story in 1974. It took some time and effort to finally locate the artist and we first viewed Diego’s works shortly after, at a showing in the Officers Club in Heidelberg.

There, we were completely swept away with his works and we made our first purchase “The Face of a Young Woman ”.   That was in Nov 1974. “

The painting “Bambineicon Frutta” (bottom center in image below) was featured on the cover of 1974 #TV Guide.  A unique story co-written by Coop #Cooprider and Andy Anderson.  This article reached many and caught the attention of Stephen Max.  Stephen was inspired by the painting on the front cover and after reading the article wanted to become a Diego Collector.  Years later Max became the Canadian Representor of DiegoVoci™ at GoldCrest #Galleries.    And now Max is the creator of videos for the DiegoVoci™ Project, the DiegoVoci™ Newsletter, “The Beauty of Diego” and more.

“Markt Day” sold for $811 USD a distinct style with emotion shown here in movement as the fruits of people’s labor shared with others.

Henry’s Auktionhaus http://www.henrys.de/index.php  located in #Mutterstadt, #Germany …. 98km from #Taunnustein, home of Helga Voci, widow of internationally collected #artist #DiegoVoci™.

The dots continue to connect as the DiegVoci™ Project archives all of DiegoVoci™ works of art.  Each painting has a story and provenance as painting change hands with new owners more recently as there was a vacuum of no information for 25 years.  More and more works are becoming available to the market. A Clown… A Lion… A TV Guide… What Do They All Have in Common?

…DIEGO!!!

These are the first two of 4 pages of the first published #DIEGO article resulting from my 1974 short lived efforts to help #DIEGO become better known.

The last two pages follow in the next post. The article was written by Victoria Williams. A photo of her interviewing #DIEGO will follow.

Notice the pathos #DIEGO captured in the #clown. The original oil was stolen from the attic of the house The Coopriders rented in #Germany. The Coopriders suspected it was taken by the landlord’s son. There is a $30,000 reward for it’s return.

40 YEARS TO FIND AGAIN 3 COLLECTORS ADDICTED TO DIEGO

Three victims of “The Potato Chip Phenomenon,” (can’t stop at buying only one Diego Voci artwork) emerged this year. 40 years ago I wrote in the June 1974 Guide to TV:

1974 June TV Guide Cover with Fishermen

Dr. William M. Morton wrote from Muncie, Indiana that he has 15 DIEGOs.  Robert Sholar in Washington D.C. has 30.  A land developer in Colorado Springs has 24 [Dr. Ogden Brown].  Dr. Norman Ferland, with 6 DIEGOs has written from Great Falls, Montana to say, “I would not even begin to think of selling them no matter what the price would be.  They are part of my house.” – Quoted from 2 page article on Diego.

We knew about the Colorado Springs Diego Collector, Dr. Ogden Brown, whose daughter Marsha became the USA agent for Diego. See her sitting before her favorite painting, “Nude in Yellow” for which a $20,000 reward has been announced (stolen about 1973).  http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page8.html#237

But, it took until this year to re-locate the other three addicted Diego collectors, I met in 1974.

We continue to uncover collectors addicted to Diego.  Colonel Snow (deceased) had many Diego’s, and we are trying to contact Col. Snow’s daughter in Colorado.  Also, Joedy Lyng Riederer in Virgina. And we have other Diego collectors finding us online each day.
