4 DIEGO VOCI TREASURES FOUND AT ESTATE SALE – NUMBER 1

When was the last time you went to a 2nd hand store, antique store, or even an Estate Auction? Tom in South Dakota went to an Estate Auction and found not just one oil painting by Antonio DIEGO Voci (1920-1985) but a total of 4 oil paintings by the internationally collected artist, mostly known as “DIEGO” to all who have been lucky enough to meet him during his short lifetime. Meet the 1st of the 4: “FISCHER”FISCHER for POST w Title et al 6 APR 2018When Tom first saw “Fischer” come up for auction – he was taken by the rugged and well-lived look!  Diego was raised in Gasperina a small town in the southern region of Calabria, Italy. Diego loved people and proved this having lived his life loving people of all kind, ages, professions – as long as there was a passion of some kind. And,  Diego rarely used models, he created his subjects, places, things, all of it – from memory. Above, the brushstrokes show the wear and tear of life as a fisherman. But the glow in his eyes is alive.  Shown here are two more demonstrating DIEGO’s ability to capture the feeling of life experience:

Fisherman of Naples (ABRAMS) and Pescatore (TURK) 7 APR 2018 for FISCHER POST KC

Diego and Helga, his widow, spent much time traveling to destinations where Diego could enjoy the sun, the laid back leisurely life, and of course the water.  When little Alessandra came into their life, she too would be whisked away to the shores of wherever the auto at the time would take them, while Diego would take it all in, sketching, drawing. The artist would then turn these memories into surrealism, figurative or realism, to cubism or produce a fantasy visual.

Versatility was Diego’s strength. Driven to experiment in every genre while remaining distinctly Diego“, Coop Cooprider – Diego Voci Historian since 1973

Check out every genre by going to GOOGLE or BING! Enter “Diego Voci”, & immediately click on “IMAGES”. DIEGO VOCI #ART TREASURES POP UP AGAIN!

Tom Catron, at an auction last year in Marion, South Dakota, was initially “struck by the Diego FISCHER painting”, decided to bid, and suddenly owned his first Diego artwork!  Noticing just shortly after his winning bid Tom saw 3 other Diego Voci oil paintings pop up! Tom recently wrote the DVP that he “ended up buying all 4 that were available.”  Here are the Diego art treasures shown together:

CATRONs 4 TREASURE FINDS TOGETHER for POST 6 APR 2018

“Fischer”                            “Alltag”                            “Clown for dem Zirkuszelt”            “Grouping”              All by ANTONIO “DIEGO” VOCI (1920-1985)

We will feature Tom’s auction finds here individually with all of the details to follow – for you to appreciate their essence, brush strokes, hues of color and a unique touch or two.

Some of you recall that the DIEGO VOCI PROJECT (DVP) got its start thanks to Mary Trimmins on ARTIFACT COLLECTORS 10 years ago? Mary’s post drew names like Colonel Steve Snow (“formermil”), Christiane Hauk, Mary Helfrich, Detlev Albrecht, Stan Wilcox, Stephen Max and a few scarce other DIEGO fans to this AC thread.

Tom Catron recently found the AC thread, “registered as a member”, which then prompted AC to send us a message! Unfortunately, “Guests” galore who have not registered are still lost in AC CyberSpace.

Now, the DVP has a number of social media outlets for new and seasoned DIEGO aficionados to show off their masterpieces! WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.  And, now when you Google “DiegoVoci”, click “Images” you’ll see Google’s selection for its own DIEGO gallery! The all-volunteer DVP team has cataloged each one of the artworks in the only officially authorized Diego Voci Estate Archive!

Tom’s treasures shown above were taken as straight-on squared images, no flash (daylight is often better if not too bright). He sent measurements to reflect the actual canvas size without the frame, most easily measured from the back of the artwork. In the above images we have cropped the frames. Images with frames though can highlight the genre or theme as intended by DIEGO and/or the collector; also, frames can give us an idea of when DIEGO put his hands, eyes, and soul to the canvas in front of him.

Last, the DVP can also learn from the images of the backs – many have written information, stamps, or other markings; as well as the construction of the frame itself can be helpful. We’ve even been lucky to see dedications by DIEGO the artist himself.

Keep a lookout like Tom did! Find your own DIEGO art treasures. The DVP has shared several stories over the years of such DIEGO discoveries. And, there are so many more worldwide yet to be found. One was even found this year in #Lithuania!

#PHOTOGRAPHS – A PEEK INTO DIEGO VOCI’s #ART #STUDIO

Since 2009, when the Diego Voci Project began with a find on the internet at ARTIFACTCOLLECTORS.com thanks to Mary Trimmins and a handful of Diego aficionados, the DVP has archived more than 1,000 artworks by Antonio DIEGO Voci (1920-1985) (VOH-chee). The DVP, our all volunteer group, purpose is to increase the awareness and the value of the great body of artwork created by DIEGO! We locate, collect and catalog Diego’s works as the only officially authorized DIEGO VOCI ARCHIVE by Helga Voci, Diego’s widow and sole owner of the DIEGO VOCI ESTATE.

#DIEGO VOCI painted this large “Gasthaus” scene in his #studio in Taunusstein, Germany. Shown here the large oil painting is unframed.

Shown above is one of the many faded #photographs taken with the old fashioned camera that used film! The DVP has been featuring many of them, thanks to Helga who located and sent us a box of Index Cards she started keeping in the mid 1970’s. Coop Cooprider, Diego Voci Historian since 1973, had suggested ‘somehow tracking to whom the DIEGOs were sold‘. Since 2009, the DVP has been searching the world for more “LOST DIEGO ARTWORKS”. Some of Helga’s cards have images, but the majority do not.

HELP THE DIEGO VOCI PROJECT FIND MORE OF THE #MASTER DIEGOs ART!

Helga used both polaroids and film to catalog DIEGO’s works.  Shown below is the same DIEGO “Gasthaus” scene once it had been framed. Note how the FLASH however obliterates the female figure to the right. When taking images of your Diego art, note that the DVP is best suited to archive DIEGO’s artworks with reproducible (min. 300 dpi) straight-on squared images taken without a flash. Sometimes daylight is great too if not too bright! Front and back of artworks are preferred. Include any provenance you have!

#DIEGO #FACES SERIES – PART FOUR

Once again we want you to see Antonio DIEGO Voci’s versatility in our part four of the #Faces series. Note the drama of the #Pierrot to the calmness of the #Mother and Child. Note also the sense of young versus old.  Best is how Diego could render the surreal with tenderness and beauty in  “Mädchen mit #Mandoline” owned by Barbara W.

“NEW GENERATION” – DISCOVERING #DIEGOVOCI GOLD – PART ONE

Proof is here. The magnetism of DIEGO VOCI art can be transferred to a “New Generation.”

Diego Voci died in 1985 of lung cancer. His great body of artwork has endured 30-50 years, largely unknown except to many of his original addicted collectors who bought many. They displayed them, enjoyed them and hoarded them for decades. Now these devoted collectors are dead, dying and or downsizing and Diego’s works are popping up everywhere at bargain prices. Keep your eyes open! diegovociproject@gmail.com

Enter Brad Fairchild, Graphic Designer and Photographer, 45 years old. His parents, Cheryl and Dan met Diego personally. On a tight budget with two little kids, they bought 3 DIEGO Lithographs in the 1970’s while in Germany. They found their first original Diego Voci oil painting in the US on e-bay:   https://diegovociproject.wordpress.com/2015/07/08/potential-diegovoci-model-kicking-herself/

Their son Brad has a sharp eye. Here is the Diego Voci masterwork, “Madonna” (31″x 16″) he discovered at an Estate Sale under $1,000. Genuine #gold leaf is inlayed, similar to the techniques used by Gustav #Klimt with the famous #WomaninGold.
