SNEAK PREVIEW DIEGO 1,000 FACES BOOK

Catch a glimpse from the publisher which may or may not be in the final layout of latest book title “Diego; An Artist of a Thousand Faces” created by Stephen Max.

We are revealing the process.  This is an example of the preliminary process. Everything is malleable.

While Stephen is pulling together phases of the new publication, here is a gem created by Stephen Max of the Diego Voci Project, a museum tour of works by Diego Voci.

THE #DIEGOVOCI #LEGACY LIVES ON

The Diego Voci Legacy lives on in big ways and smaller ways. A smaller painting “Petite Fille” completed and purchased in the last year of Diego’s life. Joyce Burke (Diego Voci collector) shares “This piece was given to me for my Birthday in 1985. I love this painting.”

Joyce shares her Diego painting with the Diego Voci Project and sent over an image of the back with the original paperwork from 1985. We appreciate Joyce for the information and the images, as it assists us here at the Diego Voci Project Team in cataloging Diego’s works with the Diego Voci Estate.

In September of 1980 at Galerie Dahms on the prestigious Wilhelmstrasse of #Wiesbaden, #Germany, someone unknown person paid 3,100 Deutsche Marks for this fairly large painting by internationally collected artist Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985).

Helga Voci recalls, “The buyer may have been a German Doctor.”  No name is on the index card.  Siegfred Dahms owner of Galerie Dahms said this about Diego;

“DIEGO is one of the few artistic personalities whose paintings really appeal to people.  They understand, they get excited about and they really enjoy living with DIEGO’s art.   The beauty of his paintings and the desire of possession are often so immerse that people gradually acquire more and more of his work.  DIEGO buyers soon become DIEGO collectors.”

PAUL GAUGUIN: WHICH PAINTING?

Gauguin and Diego landscapes

If you thought it was the bottom one you would not be alone.  The top painting that sold on February 28, 2017 for $25 million dollars at Christie’s in London is not the typical bold style Gauguin is known for (Google “Gauguin images“).

The lower painting is by Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985) from the private collection of Patti and Coop Cooprider.  Google has selected a few dozen of Diego Voci art works for display in their gallery of Diego Voci Images.  Google “Diego Voci” and click “Images”.

ONE #DIEGOVOCI PAINTING HOLDS SO MANY MEMORIES

petite-village-de-montague_a

Tony and Stacie Westbrook share their #heartfelt #story of their Diego Voci painting title “Petit Village de Montague” and how this #painting holds many years of memories for them.

In Tony’s words:

My wife and I purchased this piece while living in Germany and serving with the US military around 1982.  We seem to recall that we purchased it at an art show probably held at the Officers Club in either Stuttgart or Heidelberg.  We were living in Heilbronn at the time.  Over the years we have collected many pieces of art – originals and limited prints – yet this piece (Petit Village de Montague) remains our absolute favorite.  It is a constant reminder of our time in Europe and what we took on as a very young married couple.  I am happy to say that after 37 years we are still very happily married and that this piece always gets the most prominent spot in the house.  It has been all over the United States and has been enjoyed by countless numbers of our friends.  Its simplicity, warmth, and mixture of color/contrast make it a wonderful piece to gaze at and enjoy for a lifetime.  This painting is one of my most prized processions and I will never part with it.

“Petit Village de Montague” as painted by Diego, represented all that we loved about out time in Europe while allowing our imagination to constantly explore who lived in village, where the village was, what the families experienced, endured, and enjoyed about their town.  The painting just brought forth positive feelings and thoughts which is what drew us to it.

This is one example of stories we receive from collectors of Diego Voci’s work of art.  The Diego Voci Estate dreams of one day to find a generous benefactor to sponsor a major museum exhibition… in the meantime take a tour of Diego’s virtual museum: https://youtu.be/GG5Jl-2FuXM

WHEN DID #INNOCENZO BECOME #DIEGO?

On this day on 10 August (1920) in Gasperina, Italy, Giuseppe Antonio Voci and Arcangela Messina Voci welcomed their second son, Antonio Innocenzo Voci  into this world… nicknamed “Toto” as a kid.  Antonio Voci never liked his middle name Innnocenzo.  It does not appear again in official documents other than the birth certificate on file in Gasperina.  He took the nickname “Diego”.

Tony Voci, nephew to Diego recalls traveling in Europe with his artist Uncle and about every hour they would stop at a café for a smoke and espresso.  To the surprise of Tony Voci, Diego was greeted as “Diego” everywhere.   “Diego” was his own celebrity.

The name “Diego” signed on his artwork didn’t come into play until 1966.  At encouragement of Naffouj Gallery he began signing his paintings “Diego”.  Prior to that it was some form of VOCI.  See signature section on #Wikipedia:   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Diego_Voci#Gallery

The last known official document during Diego’s life was his 1976 Taunusstein Germany residence registration (see below) where “Diego” is listed as his middle name.

Taunusstein Certificta of Registration 31.3.1976 COPY for Helga

The December 10, 1985 Death Certificate ignores the birth middle name.

Some have wondered if Diego would have been more famous keeping the more unique name “Innocenzo” as his signature, rather than get lost in a swelling sea of Diegos, “Diego who?” .

Here’s a rewarding way to wish Antonio Diego Voci Happy Birthday.  Go to YouTube, click https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Diego+Voci and take a wonderful museum tour, a 20 year Diego retrospective covering two floors.  Or go to #Google, search “Diego  Voci” and click “Images”.
