“FRIENDS” On The Wall & “FRIENDS” On The Couch

This October 1972 occasion was Coop Cooprider’s 36^th birthday (on left).  The friends on the couch are Ingrid and Walter Nermerich, owners of “Alt Landstuhl Restaurant” in Landstuhl, Germany home of the famous Chateaubriand.

“Friends” on the wall is an amazing work of art by internationally collected artist Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985).  The painting was purchased from the private collection of Jawdat and Joy Naffouj, art dealers also in Alt, Landstuhl.  “Friends” has been on Coop and Patti’s walls as they moved around the world ever since.

Coopriders now own about 8 dozen or so Diego art paintings; several are earmarked for selection into a Major Museum Diego Retrospective once a generous benefactor comes forward.

Coop Cooprider has 4 Aldo Paolucci paintings, also from Naffouj, 2 nudes and 2 abstract.

It is amazing the influence Jawdat Naffouj had on so many collectors of art. He still has the little gallery in the Altstadt of Landstuhl, Germany. Its 50 years since we bought our first painting from him and Joy.

This still is from a video we shot in 2012. He was showing me his contract with DiegoVoci™.

Diego Voci was the artist I became most attracted to. Regretfully, I know little of the values except for Diego for whom I have done extensive history:

SOLD $500 “FISHER PEOPLE” BY DIEGO VOCI

Helga Voci, widow of internationally collected artist Diego Voci said:

“Diego played cards with the Fishermen”

Diego specialized in portraying the common people.  Diego with Helga at his side would seek out places to purposely live among them.

This painting is one of the very first when the signature “Diego” was applied to his canvas.  How do we know?

1. Joy Gibson was a Canadian art dealer based in Zweibrucken, Germany. Her stamp is on the back of the canvas.
2. Joy was the one who influenced the artist to start signing “Diego” the nickname he was known by (formerly he signed some form of Voci as on the painting given to JFK in 1963 in Wiesbaden).
3. This was before Joy married Dr. Jawdat Naffouj and added his last name to hers. Naffouj Gallery remains to this day in Landstuhl, Germany.

Stay alert.  A Diego Voci painting may appear anywhere.  This one was donated to Goodwill and just auctioned at $500.
