Since 2009, when the Diego Voci Project began with a find on the internet at ARTIFACTCOLLECTORS.com thanks to Mary Trimmins and a handful of Diego aficionados, the DVP has archived more than 1,000 artworks by Antonio DIEGO Voci (1920-1985) (VOH-chee). The DVP, our all volunteer group, purpose is to increase the awareness and the value of the great body of artwork created by DIEGO! We locate, collect and catalog Diego’s works as the only officially authorized DIEGO VOCI ARCHIVE by Helga Voci, Diego’s widow and sole owner of the DIEGO VOCI ESTATE.

Shown above is one of the many faded #photographs taken with the old fashioned camera that used film! The DVP has been featuring many of them, thanks to Helga who located and sent us a box of Index Cards she started keeping in the mid 1970’s. Coop Cooprider, Diego Voci Historian since 1973, had suggested ‘somehow tracking to whom the DIEGOs were sold‘. Since 2009, the DVP has been searching the world for more “LOST DIEGO ARTWORKS”. Some of Helga’s cards have images, but the majority do not.

Helga used both polaroids and film to catalog DIEGO’s works. Shown below is the same DIEGO “Gasthaus” scene once it had been framed. Note how the FLASH however obliterates the female figure to the right. When taking images of your Diego art, note that the DVP is best suited to archive DIEGO’s artworks with reproducible (min. 300 dpi) straight-on squared images taken without a flash. Sometimes daylight is great too if not too bright! Front and back of artworks are preferred. Include any provenance you have!

“La fille du port” owned by Tom Frinta and his wife Ena is best described in Tom’s own words, “La fille du port” is actually my favorite picture. I look at it several times a day. There is a very precious meaning. Her expression shows that poverty does not reduce the human values. Her face is still so beautiful and sovereign although she cannot afford a new dress.”

After connecting with Tom in March of 2015, the DVP found that not only did Tom share an exciting and clandestine adventure with “Diego” himself, this exquisite oil painting by Diego has a story of it’s own. To read about their “energizing” #adventure click on link at bottom of the WP post.
Circa 1973 Helga #Voci began keeping index cards of Diego oil #paintings, cards not found again until this year. Of recent DVP discovered 2 cards for the same painting. Coop has been the Diego Voci #Historian since #1973 and he and wife Patti continue to collect Diego #artwork and proudly display them with no intent to let go of any Diego artwork!
In 1974 Coop purchased“La fille du port” in Diego’s studio. Diego later, on Christine Khan’s behalf, asked Coop & Patti for some of their Diego collection to keep Christine in business. Since Coop let Patti choose a few, he had no idea which paintings were selected. Fortunately and unfortunately it ended up including the “La fille du port”.
Once we made the connection of 2 Index cards selling the same painting the mystery was solved. Sold to Coop in 1974, it was resold to Tom in 1980, who proudly refers to Diego as his “close friend Antonio”. “La fille du port” is in good hands with Tom and Ena.
Coop says “Tom has great taste”and that had he known Patti selecting this one he’d have stopped her!

On this day on 10 August (1920) in Gasperina, Italy, Giuseppe Antonio Voci and Arcangela Messina Voci welcomed their second son, Antonio Innocenzo Voci into this world… nicknamed “Toto” as a kid. Antonio Voci never liked his middle name Innnocenzo. It does not appear again in official documents other than the birth certificate on file in Gasperina. He took the nickname “Diego”.
Tony Voci, nephew to Diego recalls traveling in Europe with his artist Uncle and about every hour they would stop at a café for a smoke and espresso. To the surprise of Tony Voci, Diego was greeted as “Diego” everywhere. “Diego” was his own celebrity.

The last known official document during Diego’s life was his 1976 Taunusstein Germany residence registration (see below) where “Diego” is listed as his middle name.
The December 10, 1985 Death Certificate ignores the birth middle name.
Some have wondered if Diego would have been more famous keeping the more unique name “Innocenzo” as his signature, rather than get lost in a swelling sea of Diegos, “Diego who?” .

See 2 pages (below) from a catalog designed by Adolph #Merkt from #Taunusstein (the town where DIEGO’s widow Helga continues to live in the home where she and DIEGO lived and worked). The words are those of Herr Dahms. The 1st is in #English. The 2nd in Dahms’ native #German.

We believe the highest known recorded price for a #DIEGO artwork in his lifetime was at #Galerie Dahms in Wiesbaden; a very large work for DM 14,000 in the late 70’s. Using only time value of money alone would place the value today of $30,000 or more.
