WHEN DID #INNOCENZO BECOME #DIEGO?

On this day on 10 August (1920) in Gasperina, Italy, Giuseppe Antonio Voci and Arcangela Messina Voci welcomed their second son, Antonio Innocenzo Voci  into this world… nicknamed “Toto” as a kid.  Antonio Voci never liked his middle name Innnocenzo.  It does not appear again in official documents other than the birth certificate on file in Gasperina.  He took the nickname “Diego”.

Tony Voci, nephew to Diego recalls traveling in Europe with his artist Uncle and about every hour they would stop at a café for a smoke and espresso.  To the surprise of Tony Voci, Diego was greeted as “Diego” everywhere.   “Diego” was his own celebrity.

The name “Diego” signed on his artwork didn’t come into play until 1966.  At encouragement of Naffouj Gallery he began signing his paintings “Diego”.  Prior to that it was some form of VOCI.  See signature section on #Wikipedia:   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Diego_Voci#Gallery

The last known official document during Diego’s life was his 1976 Taunusstein Germany residence registration (see below) where “Diego” is listed as his middle name.

Taunusstein Certificta of Registration 31.3.1976 COPY for Helga

The December 10, 1985 Death Certificate ignores the birth middle name.

Some have wondered if Diego would have been more famous keeping the more unique name “Innocenzo” as his signature, rather than get lost in a swelling sea of Diegos, “Diego who?” .

Here’s a rewarding way to wish Antonio Diego Voci Happy Birthday.  Go to YouTube, click https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Diego+Voci and take a wonderful museum tour, a 20 year Diego retrospective covering two floors.  Or go to #Google, search “Diego  Voci” and click “Images”.

#CUBISM SERIES BY DIEGO VOCI

When artists #GeorgeBraque, #Picasso, and #JuanGris created #cubistic #paintings it was often difficult even to the trained eye to identify which artist did the work. When Antonio #DIEGO Voci ventured into his cubistic mode he strived to be distinctively DIEGO.

Here are examples:

C5 Le Concert de Harliquin 1972 #660 23 34 x 32

Le Concert de Harlequins” 1970, 32″ x 23 ¾” , oil on canvas, signed “DIEGO” Private Collection

1st Email of Black and White Cubism Improved Image without Glass from CATSUP Heinz Bertram 26 May 2014

Ink on Paper“, 1985, Signed “DIEGO

Ink on Paper” is an important example historically because it was one of the very last works before DIEGO transitioned 3 days later. DIEGO drew this especially for what became his last exhibition, an open house at his residence the first week of December 1985. DIEGO remained upstairs in bed, too ill to personally attend.

It is amazing the influence Jawdat Naffouj had on so many collectors of art. He still has the little gallery in the Altstadt of Landstuhl, Germany. Its 50 years since we bought our first painting from him and Joy.

Jawdat Naffouj

This still is from a video we shot in 2012. He was showing me his contract with DiegoVoci™.

Diego Voci was the artist I became most attracted to. Regretfully, I know little of the values except for Diego for whom I have done extensive history:

Hot Buys! Diego Voci paintings

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Beurone of Gerleve, 1965 31 1/2″ x 24″

HOT BUYS!!!

The time to buy a DiegoVoci™ painting is right now while there are more sellers than buyers. That will change.

Remember when houses were so cheap a few years ago? The people who took advantage got anywhere from 30% to double their money today. Buy low. Sell high.

The DiegoVoci™ owners of 30 and 40 years ago have passed or are dying. Owners literally hoarded 4,000 Diego oil paintings since Diego’s death in 1985. Yet DiegoVoci™ was unknown to the world’s art market. The paintings are showing up in yard sales, thrift shops, auctions, and eBay ranging from 97¢ to $1250. Some are quite good. One or two not as good. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. This canvas (painting above) is good. The new owner bought it at a garage sale for an amazing 97¢! You should be so lucky.

Two things are at work to raise DiegoVoci™ prices:
1. As people like you find the bargains, the supply will get tighter.
2. The demand will rise also because of the work being done by the volunteer Diego Voci Project Team to enhance awareness and value of Diego’s great body of artwork.

Get busy! Google “Diego Voci” while the buys are hot. The bottom is now. The sky’s the limit!

Go to www.diegovociproject.com to purchase a DiegoVoci™ painting.

THE #NOTORIETY CONTINUES FOR #ARTIST #DiegoVoci™

Content below is from page 7 of the 8 page #1974 Diego Catalog by Coop Cooprider, #DiegoVoci™#Historian.

Commentary John Krueger Writer for Stars & Stripes Part II:

“Another character that often reoccurs in DIEGO’s portraits is the #clown – earnest, ruddy peasant faces under the #white makeup and the #red rose, true #children of “LA COMMEDIA DELL’ARTE”.

Helga Voci Mural

The memory of the classic form, always present in the subconscious of this truly modern #artist, gives a higher meaning and a more complex form to the work of DIEGO.  His groups of figures – here again he favors young voluptuous women – produce an almost three #dimensional effect, which is achieved by a competent use of the laws of perspective rather than by optical tricks, as, in the case of the #cubist #paintings.

Episodes and intellectual adventures, which may at times attract great curiosity and interest among public and critics, bear very little resemblance to the fundamental values of art.  Too many collective and individual phenomena dismay and disappoint art lovers looking at modern art today.  Still, there are some artists who, unaffected by trends and passing fashions, dedicate themselves to the search for truth and beauty.  DIEGO is such a man.”

#TENSION BETWEEN #HORSE AND #MAN

Content in excerpt is from page 3 of 8 of the 1974 Diego Catalog by Coop Cooprider, #DiegoVoci™Historian And the interview continues by journalist Victoria Williams in #Germany:

“Although dates and facts mean little to DIEGO, a man who lives…

… for each day, the introduction in #Paris in January 1960 to Helga Drössler was a significant turning point in DIEGO’s life.

“My life took on a new meaning. I became more.”

Helga is DIEGO’s wife.

During DIEGO’s extensive travels he was always #painting, always #learning …

“to fill a need … to express.”

There was an #EXHIBITION in #CAPRI followed by a one-man show at the GALLERIA LA BUSSOLA in #TORINO. DIEGO won 2nd prize in the #VENICE EXPOSITION of 1951. He assisted the artist BROSSI in painting the FRESCO for a village church near #ROME. DIEGO also studied at the ÉCOLE DES BEAUX ARTS in #Paris.”
