#DIEGO VOCI HAS INLUENCED OTHER #ARTISTS

One of the artists, Christa Volkert-Vogel in Germany who met Diego several times on Diego’s travels to the #Schwarzwald (Black Forest) area, in this case #Offenburg. She not only loved Diego’s master artistry, Christa says “he greatly affected my art.” Christa purchased 5 DIEGO artworks, “La Lettura per il Teatro” (Reading for the Theatre), which she acquired on October 26, 1980, is shown here:

#DIEGO VOCI “La Lettura per il Teatro” (80x70cm, Oil on Canvas, 9802-100)

Christa remembers, “In my youth I had courses at the “Painters Vocational School” in Lahr, with several regional artists including Diego Voci, an internationally known artist and compelling contemporary painter. Thus a sound foundation was created that would help me in my future endeavors. After many years of  making it my hobby, I studied art in 1998 at the Academy of Fine Arts in LahrYears later I also taught there.”

Christa also recalls one day that Diego was drawing several flower-themed artworks and says her own renderings were highly influenced from that one day forward!

Il Spazzocamino = Chimney Sweeper

In 1973, The Brown Family curated the first USA exhibition for DIEGO VOCI at Boulder Colorado’s exclusive Broadmoor Resort. The Invitation:

The Brown Family retained this painting “Il Spazzocamino” for their family collection of Diegos.

The significance of a chimney sweep” brings good luck in Germany.  When the chimney was stopped up, the man in black had to be called in to clear the flue so you could finally cook your food again. A clean sweep also reduced the risk of setting the house on fire. So to this day we consider it good luck to see a chimney sweep.”

“PLAYING CHILDREN”… WHERE IS IT NOW?

Playing Children #4812-149 oil on canvas 60 x 80 in

“PLAYING CHILDREN” by Diego Voci #4812-149, Oil on canvas 60x80cm

“Playing Children” arrived from Germany, spring of 1981, in a shipment of several Diego Voci paintings for consignment with Stephen Max in Canada.  Diego Voci was exclusively represented by Stephen Max in Canada.  He was the gateway to Diego Voci’s limelight in Canada.  “Playing Children” was shipped for a major showing thru Van Zoolingen Gallery in Edmonton.  This particular painting was sold for $1250 within weeks of its arrival in Canada.

Diego, childlike, most of his life, enjoyed the sense of play in all that he did day to day.  His daughter Alessandra was 7 years old when this artwork was done in “Playing Children”, Diego captures the spirit of emotions from the inspiration he pulled from where ever he was.  Note the hula hoop.

#MODIGLIANI, EXHIBITION IN PARIS BRINGS TOGETHER WORLD’S GREATEST ARTISTS

Modigliani Red Hair Woman

Modigliani was one of the modern master painters who inspired Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985) “Artist of a Thousand Faces”.

Here is a work by Diego Voci from the collection of Jacqueline Risch of Germany that gives hints of the Modigliani influence while remaining distinctly Diego.

Träumerei 661-512 Oil on Canvas 50x40 cm 20x16 in.

Antonio Diego Voci Wikipedia biography states:

Diego thrived on camaraderie as did other artists before him, such as Amedeo Modigliani, both “figurative” artists, both Italian born, both migrated to Paris.  Among Diego’s many facets was a drive never to be poor, never to live a tormented drug ridden life of Amedeo Modigliani who at age 35 “died in Paris exacerbated by poverty only one exhibition to his credit.” or the tortured life of Vincent van Gogh who died at age 37, with only one painting purchased in his lifetime. Diego greatly admired the exceptional work of both artists, but, unlike both artists who found few buyers for their work, in their lifetime, Diego did for his.

“Although dates and facts mean little to DIEGO, a man who lives…

… for each day, the introduction in #Paris in January 1960 to Helga Drössler was a significant turning point in DIEGO’s life.

“My life took on a new meaning. I became more.”

During DIEGO’s extensive travels he was always #painting, always #learning …

THE #WOMAN BEHIND THE #MAN

#MAX AND #DiegoVoci™ PART FIVE

This letter (below) was the seed that led to Stephen & Wendy Max representing DiegoVoci™ from 1981 to 1985.

 Taunusstein, June 17, 1980

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Max,

We hope your trip back to Canada was alright and your painting arrived safely.

Last week we bought our tickets and if nothing unexpected happens we will be arriving in New York on July 10.

Somebody arranged an exhibit in the Officer’s Club in Washington D.C. for Diego on July 12 and 13, therefore we will be going to directly to D.C.  We are planning several exhibits and private parties on our way to the West and will be in Washington State around the 25 of July. We will stay there with our friends in Gig Harbor for several days, they are also planning an exhibit in their gallery and in the Officer’s Club.

I think it is not too far from away from Alberta by plane and we could perhaps fly over to you for 2 days.  Do you know people who would be interested in seeing Diego’s paintings?  Do you think you could arrange a small painting party in your home?  Please write us as soon as possible, so we can organize everything.  We know that Canadians like Diego’s paintings very much and I think that Diego could be quite successful in Canada.

We are waiting for your early reply and in the meantime we remain.

With best wishes.

JUMP ON BOARD THE #DIEGOVOCI™ TIME MACHINE……1981

#StephenMax, #DiegoVoci™  #Canadian Representative, staged an exhibition of #DiegoVoci™ works of art at the Griesbach Officers Club in #Edmonton.  A #newspaper article captured the exhibition “#PICASSO MEETS #ELGRECO?”.   After the exhibition, many conversations between Diego and Stephen Max took place and the concept of promoting Diego’s works in #Canada was formed.

The agreement came together to consign DiegoVoci™ works of art while preparations of the launch of #GoldCrest Galleries LTD was established.

Stephen Max arranged more exhibits, in Helga’s words…

“Diego and I attended exhibitions of DiegoVoci™ works of art in Canada, 1981. One was the Goldcrest Galleries Ltd., in Columbus Center Toronto. The other was the Van Zoolingen Galleries in Edmonton.”
