Diego Voci; The Trial 38″x30″ Framed, oil painting Private Collection

 

We (The Diego Voci Project Team) just learned that James Thomson, Diego Voci Collector, acquired “The Trial” by internationally collected artist, Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985) from an online Goodwill auction.

James shares;

“I purchased another oil painting by Diego. The canvas measures (31 X 23 inches), framed (38 X 30 inches). On the back is Diego printed and below that in English, the title ” The Trial ” which I assume is the trial of the Apostle’s Peter and John with them in the painting stands the cripple that they cured who stood up with Peter and John to defend the Apostles before the threatening Jewish Council. The Council asked them “By what power or in whose name did you do this?””

 This painting title “The Trial” was during the time the DIEGO signature began on his works (ca. 1966).  Diego began an exclusive contract to NAFFOUJ Gallery. The frame is the style commonly used by Naffouj for DIEGO as well as other artists. The biography on the back was written by Joy Gibson before she married Jawdat Naffouj. Joy now resides in Canada. Our estimation is the work is around 1966. The historical interpretation certainly to fits what James Thomson wrote.

Where is “Playing Children” now?

This is an old faded polaroid of Diego Voci’s “Playing Children“.  Last information the Diego Voci Project Team has of the whereabouts is that Major Thomas Loken purchased this painting in 1976 at Ramstein AFB in Germany.  Where is this painting?

La Muse et Le Poet, and a Box of old Polaroid Images

Helga Voci, widow of Diego Voci (1920-85), sent the Diego Voci Project Team a box of old faded polaroid images of oil paintings by Diego.   Sifting thru hundreds, we came across this index card with the image of “La Muse et Le Poet”, the number of the painting, dimensions, year of purchase and the collector who purchased.

The team recognized the name as one of Diego’s collectors, The Halsavers wrote an excerpt on their Diego Voci collection:

We have about 10 Diego’s works and treasure them.  In fact, will still have the receipts for most all.  We visited him in his home and he has joined us for a bottle of wine at ours in Stuttgart in the mid-70’s.  Christine Khan, who displayed Diego’s works in her Wiesbaden studio, joined us maybe a half dozen times, too.  We have a folder of Diego’s promotional materials and ads from various handouts as well as newspaper articles about him.  His house had a dozen or more New Mexico magazines scattered about and as we had moved from New Mexico to Stuttgart, we talked of his time there and how we loved his realistic pastels of Indians that we bought.  We are glad that you have taken the initiative to honor Diego works on this site.
