WHO OWNS THIS PAINTING NOW?

Jeune Fille en Blanc #641-030 80x60cm oil on canvas

Diego Voci; “Jeune Fille en Blanc” #641-030 oil on canvas 80x60cm

“Jeune Fille en Blanc” was purchased back in 1974 by Diego Voci Historian, Coop Cooprider in Diego’s studio when Coop was helping Diego become better known. Diego opened up his studio to visitors and many experienced first hand the “magnetism” of Diego, so captivated by his art and his persona that most walked out with a painting or two in hand. Coop was no exception.

Throughout the years, Coop and his family have traveled and moved between Europe and United States, and along the way this painting has gone missing.

This unique cubistic/surrealist art work takes on the divide between two different styles. Where is the line between the two?

#CUBISM SERIES BY DIEGO VOCI

When artists #GeorgeBraque, #Picasso, and #JuanGris created #cubistic #paintings it was often difficult even to the trained eye to identify which artist did the work. When Antonio #DIEGO Voci ventured into his cubistic mode he strived to be distinctively DIEGO.

Here are examples:

C5 Le Concert de Harliquin 1972 #660 23 34 x 32

Le Concert de Harlequins” 1970, 32″ x 23 ¾” , oil on canvas, signed “DIEGO” Private Collection

Spanish Table 27 25 x 19 34 Drawing Final

1st Email of Black and White Cubism Improved Image without Glass from CATSUP Heinz Bertram 26 May 2014

Ink on Paper“, 1985, Signed “DIEGO

Ink on Paper” is an important example historically because it was one of the very last works before DIEGO transitioned 3 days later. DIEGO drew this especially for what became his last exhibition, an open house at his residence the first week of December 1985. DIEGO remained upstairs in bed, too ill to personally attend.

Cubism - Christiane Hauk Genre Version

Cubism“, Signed “DIEGO” top Left hand corner, Private Collection (DIEGO was very generous giving away his art to people he was close to, for example this gift of a cubistic painting to Helga Voci’s sister.)

C71 NUDE cubism 1971 31 .5 x 23.75

Nude Cubism“, 1971, 31 ¾” x 23 ½”, oil on canvas, Signed “DIEGO” Private Collection

#PICASSO MEETS #ELGRECO?

In 1981, St. Albert residents, Stephen and Wendy Max presented the first Canadian showing of the work of Antonio Diego Voci.  The press paid attention:

“His (DiegoVoci™) paintings have overtones of Picasso cubist style, in harmony with an esthetic clarity suggestive of #ElGreco.” Section of article “St. Albert residents host art show”

Diego Griesbach July 1980 Newspaper article and image of Diego painting Suonatrice di linto

The success of “#PICASSO MEETS #ELGRECO” stemmed into the launch of Goldcrest Galleries Ltd by Stephen Max as he became Canada’s exclusive agent for DiegoVoci™ until his death in 1985.

LOST #DIEGO PAINTING…WHERE IS IT?

Helga #Voci, widow to Diego Voci, has a shoebox with old photos of paintings done by Diego but many do not have names of owners on them… so the whereabouts are unknown.

This is one of the images of a Diego #cubistic painting that came from Helga’s shoebox… size and title are unknown:

Notice the rider appears to be strumming a base fiddle that forms into the rider’s left leg as he straddles his flying horse.  And if you look at the eye of the bull, he’s thinking “What the heck is going on here?”  This story-filled #painting leaves you with many interpretations.  Most important is to find its owner and its trail of history.
