CARTOONIST BLITT CAPTURES NEWS IN RETRO

September 3, 2018 The New Yorker

Disclaimer: “Although I disagree with politics, I do believe he is this century’s genius for political portrayal and choose to honor him for his brilliant art ability. This image is one year old, but with only one name change is up to date with current events.” Coop Cooprider, Diego Voci Art Historian

Diego Voci was also a brilliant cartoonist, but, so little has been found because he only signed his serious works of art. Click on link to view:

1974 DIEGO VOCI #BENEDICTINE #CONTEST ENTRY

In 1974 #DIEGO was invited to participate in the 12th Annual BENEDICTINE Art Awards in #NY (USA). #DIEGO showed no interest. The Diego Voci Historian, Coop Cooprider,  offered to buy DIEGO’s creation in advance, on the condition it would be submitted to the #BENEDICTINE event. DIEGO agreed. DIEGO had complete freedom on what to paint.

This 1974 full image (30″ x 24″ sand based paint on canvas- BELOW) with the 14″ BENEDICTINE bottle shows the result as submitted to the BENEDICTINE event.

When DIEGO learned he did not win, he retaliated, and obliterated the BENEDICTINE bottle and its labels. Before the Diego Voci Art Historian, Coop Cooprider could pick up the paid-in-advance “BENEDICTINE” painting, DIEGO had clandestinely painted out all evidence of his disappointing BENEDICTINE experience. DIEGO transformed the BENEDICTINE bottle into a 14″ pink pitcher adding a handle (see ABOVE).

“FRIENDS” On The Wall & “FRIENDS” On The Couch

October 1972 Coops 36th Birthday

This October 1972 occasion was Coop Cooprider’s 36th birthday (on left).  The friends on the couch are Ingrid and Walter Nermerich, owners of “Alt Landstuhl Restaurant” in Landstuhl, Germany home of the famous Chateaubriand.

Friends” on the wall is an amazing work of art by internationally collected artist Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985).  The painting was purchased from the private collection of Jawdat and Joy Naffouj, art dealers also in Alt, Landstuhl.  “Friends” has been on Coop and Patti’s walls as they moved around the world ever since.

Coopriders now own about 8 dozen or so Diego art paintings; several are earmarked for selection into a Major Museum Diego Retrospective once a generous benefactor comes forward.

Three great places to learn more about Diego:

  1. Google “Diego Voci” then click “Images
  2. Wikipedia: Antonio Diego Voci”

The other is the Picassoesque “Amazonni”, a masterpiece in the collection of Coop Cooprider Diego Voci Historian since (1973)*. Link https://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page9.html#87210

WHO OWNS THIS PAINTING NOW?

Jeune Fille en Blanc #641-030 80x60cm oil on canvas

Diego Voci; “Jeune Fille en Blanc” #641-030 oil on canvas 80x60cm

“Jeune Fille en Blanc” was purchased back in 1974 by Diego Voci Historian, Coop Cooprider in Diego’s studio when Coop was helping Diego become better known. Diego opened up his studio to visitors and many experienced first hand the “magnetism” of Diego, so captivated by his art and his persona that most walked out with a painting or two in hand. Coop was no exception.

Throughout the years, Coop and his family have traveled and moved between Europe and United States, and along the way this painting has gone missing.

This unique cubistic/surrealist art work takes on the divide between two different styles. Where is the line between the two?
