Diego Voci; “Clown” with Frame 38″x 22″ oil on canvas

Gerald Basinger shares;

“I only recently was aware of your DIEGO VOCI project and would like to contribute my experience.

I was stationed with US Army 16th Aviation Bn. in Nellingen W. Germany from 1968-1970 and became acquainted with Diego at the Officers Club at Patch Barracks where he had one of his art exhibitions. Although he did not have a Clown painting there, I had seen his work with that subject elsewhere. Since I was making a driving trip vacation to Paris from my military accommodation near Stuttgart and he was living close to the route I would be driving I contracted for him to paint a CLOWN (Oil on canvas).  I do not recall the specific name of his location where he was living.

Anyway, the experience of going to his place, in the summer of 1970, and watching him start from a blank canvas and over a 2 hour time period to see his amazing, actually incredible, speed and skill with the brush was something I will never forget. I am not kidding that at least 4 or 5 different times he could have said I am done and I would have been just thrilled with what I saw. But he would say “I want to work on this a bit” and a new and different clown would appear. Be it a hair change, a different necktie, a change in the eyes, or mouth. What a genius. Because I returned to the USA in October 1970 I had no other contact with Diego.

However, I have had numerable favorable comments over the years with that piece of art in my homes. With regards”

#MAX AND #DiegoVoci™ PART FIVE

This letter (below) was the seed that led to Stephen & Wendy Max representing DiegoVoci™ from 1981 to 1985.

 Taunusstein, June 17, 1980

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Max,

We hope your trip back to Canada was alright and your painting arrived safely.

Last week we bought our tickets and if nothing unexpected happens we will be arriving in New York on July 10.

Somebody arranged an exhibit in the Officer’s Club in Washington D.C. for Diego on July 12 and 13, therefore we will be going to directly to D.C.  We are planning several exhibits and private parties on our way to the West and will be in Washington State around the 25 of July. We will stay there with our friends in Gig Harbor for several days, they are also planning an exhibit in their gallery and in the Officer’s Club.

I think it is not too far from away from Alberta by plane and we could perhaps fly over to you for 2 days.  Do you know people who would be interested in seeing Diego’s paintings?  Do you think you could arrange a small painting party in your home?  Please write us as soon as possible, so we can organize everything.  We know that Canadians like Diego’s paintings very much and I think that Diego could be quite successful in Canada.

We are waiting for your early reply and in the meantime we remain.

With best wishes.

Interpretation of “Donne Con Natura Morta”

Over 30 years ago, the art collector who purchased this painting “Donne Con Natura Morta” at a #DiegoVoci™ (VOH-chee) art exhibition in Sembach, #Germany re-titled it “Three Sisters” and believed the gold object at the bottom right was a block of #cheese.  DiegoVoci™ had a deeper meaning awaiting discovery by the viewer.  …Contemplate #death through the metaphor of a golden #fortune #cookie.

“Donne Con Natura Morta”, 1978, 31 ½ x 23 2/3

The word “Morta” is #Italian, literally translated is “Death”.  However, it reverses meaning when the word “Natura” is added to “Morta” as in Natura  Morta”; translated to English is Still Life”.

The trio of women are one.  As DiegoVoci™ contemplated death in this painting; the fortune #cookie is the only “still life” object that unfolds his interpretation of one’s transition.  DiegoVoci™ communicates the natural course of death as one receives a message from the “fortune cookie”.  The #foreshadow of the physical form is interpreted as “lifeless” while the mind exudes a presence of life swayed by the uncertainty one’s experiences with thoughts of #transition.

The foundation of the true meaning in his creation lies in the shadows of the #spirit representing a bold apparent & non-apparent emotion of life.  Is our life simply a mystery wrapped up in a fortune cookie?

“Words from HELGA AND DIEGOVOCI™, Chapter 6

“In the late 60’s we had met the Browns in #Heidelberg. They bought a very big collection of marvelous #DiegoVoci™ paintings and we became friends with them. The Brown family at one point in the seventies had the largest collection of DiegoVoci™ artworks.”

DIEGO and Ted & Alyce Brown and Diego at Broadmoor

“In 1973, Dr. Ogden (Ted) and Alyce Brown had Diego and I as their guest, sponsoring a stellar one-man exhibition for him at the beautiful #Broadmoor Resort, #Boulder, Colorado. Marsha Largent (daughter of Ted & Alyce Brown) became Diego’s U.S. Representative and was the source of the pricelist for #DiegoVoci™ artworks” (see below).
