EARLY DIEGO VOCI DISCOVERY UNVEILED!

Here is one of 3 paintings known to be sold by Schlossgalerie in Zurich, Switzerland; a period when Schlossgalerie in Zurich provided Diego (Voci) a studio (mid 1963-1964) where master paintings were created.

Mr. Buri owner of Schlossgalerie in Zurich during that time period sold Diego’s works under the name “Antonio Voci”.

This painting of a blacksmith was discovered by Susan Vogler Pinfold.  Susan sent this image to the Diego Voci Project and is referenced as “The Smithy” 57 ½” x 69″ oil on canvas.  This painting is signed “A Voci” and on the plaque the name is “Antonio Voci“.

WHERE IS THE OWNER TODAY OF THIS ANTONIO VOCI?

In January 1965, DIEGO had an exhibition at the Schlossgalerie in #Zurich, #Switzerland.

Notice the reference to the name in the “Neue Züricher Zeitung” newspaper ad “Antonio Voci” not “DIEGO”.

Helga Drössler had been with DIEGO for five years. Thereafter he mostly signed“DIEGO”. Helga and DIEGO married in #Denmark in 1968.

Notice the style. #Realism. Both different from the works DIEGO Collectors are familiar with. It illustrates his #versatility and #craftsmanship (#Picasso painted realism when he first began. So did #Dali).

CHAPTER 4   Schloßgalerie and Switzerland

“Diego had to stay in Marrakech until August, so I decided to take a job in a travel agency in Lugano, Switzerland. This gave me the possibility to work and also to improve my Italian. I was already able to speak, but I didn’t know the grammar, so I took private lessons. Finally in August 1962 Diego joined me in Lugano.

In Switzerland it was for the first time, where Diego was seriously looking for galleries. He went to Geneva, Bern, and also to Zurich. In Zurich he found the Schloßgalerie where the owner was very interested in showing his work. So Diego decided to stay for some time in Switzerland. We rented a boathouse at the lake of Constance close to Zurich and Diego painted. The gallery owner sold quite many paintings; but unfortunately I don`t know the names of the customers and which paintings were sold.

At that time we never took pictures of the paintings, which is a pity. I feel very sorry, but I was young.

I had no experience and Diego did not care. If I could go back 50 years, I would do many things completely different. We stayed in Zurich until June 1963. 

During this period Diego went also several times to Aviano, Italy, the American base. He would do caricatures there. At that time a painting was sold and brought to President John F. Kennedy, who was visiting Wiesbaden. (I don`t remember what it looked like).

In Italy, we stayed for some time in Milan, Florence, and Rome. Finally we came to a small medieval town in northern Italy, called Asolo with only 1000 inhabitants. We rented an apartment in a very old house in the middle of the town with a big terrace and Diego made his first real Studio. He mostly sold in Zurich in the Schloßgalerie. But he also worked with a gallery in Milan “Globart Kunstgalerie.””

#DIEGOVOCI SIGNATURE TRANSITION

Although everyone called him “Diego” in 1960 he signed Antonio Voci, as in the previous blog containing his registration in #Paris https://diegovociproject.wordpress.com/2015/08/19/paris-forced-diegovoci-to-register-to-save-helgas-health/ to stay by Helga’s side as she recovered in the Paris Hospital.

Notice the signature on the painting below “D.Voci”, part of the transition from “A. Voci”.  Both would vary on Diego’s art until 1965 when he used “Diego” signature for the last 20 years of his life.

This painting is believed to have been found in a warehouse.

#PARIS FORCED #DIEGOVOCI TO REGISTER TO SAVE HELGA’S HEALTH

As evidence of Diego’s dedication to Helga here is the #Paris registration required for Diego to speak for his new love Helga in the hospital.  Notice (in the image below) Diego is still signing Antonio Voci.  “Diego” did not show up on documents for another 5 years.
