DIEGO’s #CARICATURES 1970’s ERA

#Skeeter Dan #Skiing signed “Voci” 1974 & #Skier “Steverino” (aka Stephen Max) by unknown #artist

Dan and Arlene surprised the DVP with a rare caricature signed “Voci” they cherish, in addition to an exquisite oil painting by DIEGO they bought from Diego directly in Wiesbaden, Germany while Dan was stationed there. Here are Dan’s words: “I met Diego several times. See the attached “all-in-fun” sketch by Diego. He asked me what my sport was I said skeet shooting. He thought I said skiing, but I corrected him. So, you see both sports in the sketch, my broken skis and a shotgun. We purchased the painting directly from him at the Wiesbaden Officers Club”:

“Old Man with Girl”, 24 x 20 inches, Oil on Canvas, 1970’s, by Antonio DIEGO Voci.

Thank you Dan and Arlene for being a part of the DIEGO VOCI PROJECT since 2016!

#DIEGO #VOCI #FACES #SERIES PART 5

#Below are the last five in the last of this Diego Voci Project Faces Series:

Group 5 1 NOV 2017

#DIEGO VOCI #Faces- Where are they now? Faded Polaroids found by Helga in a shoebox.

#Helga Voci, #Diego’s widow, has provided the DVP a plethora of Index Cards she kept since the mid 70’s. Coop Cooprider, Diego Voci Historian since 1973, suggested inventory records of the Diego aficionados such as Stephen Max and his wife Wendy. They represented Diego exclusively in Canada from 1980 until 1985 the year Diego passed.

Learn how Stephen Max and Coop Cooprider were linked to Diego’s growing success in Germany and then Canada – all because of a TV Guide:  https://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-antonio-diego-voci-3984818/Page15.html#88728

Above on the left is “Suonatrice di linto” is one of 20 plus DIEGO artworks owned by Stephen and Wendy Max, in Edmonton, Albert, Canada. #Dining with @DiegoVoci Part 5 #LaGondola Restaurant

DiegoVoci™ was known for his palette covered in paint – and very often for his other #palette of savoring great Italian #cuisine.

“We all went to this restaurant “La Gondola” many years ago with Uncle Diego” recalls Mario Voci, his nephew who lives in England with his wife Dagmar. For years the two made an annual trip to Rome, where Mario’s sister Lina still lives today. Her son Francesco Caruso just had Lina’s 1st grandson: Niccolo.

Mario’s wife Dagmar recently came across the Order Ticket” also used as a Receipt (#Rechnung) seen below. The 1,000 Deutsche Mark faux Image is on the back of the ticket!  Diego created the owner, Cesare Gianni of “La Gondola” in caricature ( 1 #DM was 4 to $1 at the time):

“The laurel wreath on the subject is due to the fact that #Trier was once Roman and also the capital of the North-West Roman empire*.   I hope you find it interesting,” shares Mario who was very close to his Uncle Diego and still visits Helga Voci in #Taunusstein near #Wiesbaden every year.  Here are Helga and Diego in the late ’60s:

On the drive thru Germany to visit Uncle Diego and Aunt Helga we always tried to stop in #Trier, for a palatable and delicious Italian meal. The ‘La Gondola’ restaurant was a favorite – not just for my wife and I  – but Uncle Diego and Helga would even meet us there.” Diego knew Cesare Gianni like he did many other Italian restaurant ‘owners’ (‘Inh.’ = Inhaber) he did Ciccio and Francesco Daneluzzi (and, Gigi Bellati of La Gondola in Ramstein, more to come…)

Today, a local hospital “#Krankenhaus” covers the entire area where “La Gondola”stood. Like many of the day, . . . gone.

*Trier is noted for its Roman history, to include the #Porta Nigra (Black Gate) which still stands today, as well as the #aquaducts and “Imperial Baths”the #Romans built during their reign in #Trier on the #Mosel River. Google “Trier, Germany”

“Arrivederci” as it reads at the bottom of the ticket . . .
