MISSING LARGE DIEGO VOCI™ PAINTING…CALLING #SHERLOCK: WHERE IS “JERRY O”?

#DIEGOVOCI SIGNATURE TRANSITION

Although everyone called him “Diego” in 1960 he signed Antonio Voci, as in the previous blog containing his registration in #Paris https://diegovociproject.wordpress.com/2015/08/19/paris-forced-diegovoci-to-register-to-save-helgas-health/ to stay by Helga’s side as she recovered in the Paris Hospital.

Notice the signature on the painting below “D.Voci”, part of the transition from “A. Voci”.  Both would vary on Diego’s art until 1965 when he used “Diego” signature for the last 20 years of his life.

Here is a sample of the Moroccan paintings referred to in Helga’s biography https://diegovociproject.wordpress.com/2015/08/19/helga-in-a-paris-bistro/ in the previous blog.

This painting is believed to have been found in a warehouse.

SEEKING CARUSO! DOES ANYONE KNOW #JERRYCARUSO?

Jerry Caruso wrote to Artifact Collectors on January 27, 2013 that he was interested in selling his Diego landscape, see image below.

Jerry shares,
“We were at Ramstein Air Base from 68 – 74 and have a Diego landscape. The painting is oil on canvas and is approximately 24″ X 36″. We are open to selling it, if you are interested, please make an offer.”

The Diego Voci Project responded but, it seems because it was only a “Guest” post instead of registering as an Artifact Collectors Member (it’s free), everything is lost somewhere in cyberspace.

The official Diego Voci Archive needs more historical details on this painting.  We can tell it is from the late 60’s and probably came from Joy and Jawdat Naffouj by the frame and the “J” by the serial number.  During this time-frame of 1968-74, DIEGO was represented by Canadian art dealer Joy Gibson beginning in 1965. Joy’s business was located in Zweibrucken, Germany and located near with the Canadian Air Force Base, it was there where she met Jawdat Naffouj then soon moved to Ramstein / Landstuhl where they established a gallery and got married.

“You are hungry. I paint you something to eat.”

A DIEGO oil painting signed “DVoci” has a special connection for the VOCI Family.

About 1957, DIEGO was traveling in Germany with his nephew, Antonio “Tony” Voci, who said “I’m hungry”. DIEGO said, “You are hungry. I paint you something to eat.” and minutes later, here is the result. Tony in his early 80’s, living in Philadelphia where this gift from DIEGO is displayed.

POTENTIAL #DIEGOVOCI MODEL – KICKING HERSELF

Cheryl McCarra Fairchild and her husband Dan were stationed in Germany from 1974-1977 in the Karlsruhe area. Cheryl remembered to Kami (Diego Voci Project):

“I met Diego for the first time at an OWC (Officer’s Wives Club Luncheon).  I fell in love with Diego’s work and his personality. I wanted to buy an oil painting.  On a Lieutenant’s salary we eventually settled for 3 Diego lithographs which we bought over time from Lillian Dussard.”

“When our family retired to the US in Georgia years later, I started searching online for DIEGO paintings. I found our first oil painting: “Giovene Ragazza”.  The profile reminded me of my mother”.

Giovene Ragazza  44990

Diego’s vibrant and bright colors in the scarves almost contradict the calm serene and fine features of her eyes and lips.

Cheryl recalls;

“Diego actually asked me to model for him.  At the time I had two small children and saw no way to do that. I’m kicking myself now!”

Though Helga Voci, Diego’s widow, states;

“Diego rarely used models, Diego painted from memory.”

Helga was referring to studio models.  Evidence is frequent that out of the studio face to face in the moment, a face of a woman or man, young or old, would inspire Diego.  Example: http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page9.html#91027; an interesting story of a black beauty with intriguing eyes.

And stay tuned for more exciting news from the Fairchild’s and the “New Generation”.

This is just one of many examples of the impact Diego had on people.  Please share your stories like these at www.diegovociproject.com or

THE SLEUTHS WHO KNOW FIND #GOLD

Crazy as it may sound, as people search for Diego Voci artworks, people who know are getting bargains from people who don’t know.  The next-to-nothing steals may be gone.  97¢ link http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page4.html#62739, and $10 for a pair of small Diego’s http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page7.html#75454.  There are still about 2,500 Diego oil paintings out there waiting to be discovered and cataloged for the Diego Voci Archive.

These 2 exceptional works were under $1,000 each.  On the left, “Harlequin au bonnet rouge” (31″x23″) and on the right “Madonna” (31″x 16″) without frames.More on them later.

The Diego Voci Project is amazed that some wonderful Diego oil paintings are still being discovered for as little as a $1000 and sometimes less.  It’s a “Buyers” Market for Diego and it’s time to consider Diego paintings as an investment.

A #DiegoVoci #Surrealism Masterpiece “Promenade”

Haunting blue eyes…

…is unique contrast to Diego’s frequent all black almond shaped eyes.

And a texture unlike any other… coarse strokes embedded in the beautifully executed oil paint causing a “wood like feel”.

Hints of de Chirico in the mannequin figure.  A cross pollination of geometric shapes and organic forms all wrapped into a well rendered composition by the master, Diego Voci, unconfined by any style.
