We the volunteers of Diego Voci Project are gaining momentum in our worldwide search for the lost works of internationally collected artist Antonio Diego #Voci (pronounced “VOH-chee” 1920-1985).
The Diego Voci #Project has published images of nearly 1,000 of about 4,000 #paintings scattered around the globe.
“Le petit téâtre ” (Oil on canvas 80 x 100 cm #381-817)
A great example is this newly discovered image of a Diego Voci #masterwork of actors awaiting to go on stage. It was purchased in 1978 by Mr. Denis #Provencher of #Canada. Denis bought the large oil painting titled “Le petit téâtre” at Diego’s studio for $1,490 Canadian Dollars. But, we have no clue as to where it is now. Please be of help!
In the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Eve (also known as Old Year’s Day or Saint Sylvester’s Day in many countries), the last day of the year, is on December 31 which is the seventh day of the Christmas season. In many countries, New Year’s Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, where many people dance, eat, drink alcoholic beverages, and watch or light fireworks to mark the new year.

Welcome to Part 1of 5 in the “FACES SERIES” by internationally collected #artist Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985) also known as “The Artist of a Thousand Faces”. Diego was fascinated by the beauty and mystery of faces like the etched lines of life’s hardships in an old man’s face. Although we are only featuring Diego faces in this series, he was by no means limited to this category. Diego also loved figures such as the grace and power of a horse, the female body nude or in ballet, landscapes, still life, and many more genres which can be viewed in “The Beauty of Diego” book (Link below).
Depicted above are 6 of the “Faces” #masterpieces by Diego. Compiled thanks to Helga Voci, Diego’s widow, who began taking polaroids in the mid 70’s and indexed them to create an inventory of sorts. Some #polaroids are severely faded and definitely not as vibrant as Diego’s originals would have been.
There are several hundred index cards with images of Diego’s art that Helga found in the basement a few months ago dated as sold in 1975-77. The box unfortunately represents only a mere number of the Diego #artworks. Nonetheless it supports the fact that there are a couple thousand more in the world to be found. Indexing the artworks was suggested by Diego Voci Historian, Coop #Cooprider early on, but unfortunately it does not include hundreds of paintings Diego created prior to the mid 70’s.
Help us find the owners of these masterpiece faces!

DIEGO’s STRENGTH WAS HIS VERSATILITY!
Fortune was there 165 years ago for those who searched.
Another opportunity exists today!! Over 3,000 more artworks by the internationally collected artist Antonio DIEGO Voci (VOH-chee) are waiting to be discovered. They could be anywhere. The original owners who hoarded them for decades are dead or getting closer. The dozens of Diego oil paintings that each collector owned are suddenly appearing in the strangest places, and at unbelievably low prices. Here is an example of two hidden gems wonderfully rendered, found online at a local #Goodwill auction site.
The new owner, Ron Brack Jr. wrote; “I purchased them from the online Goodwill auction in Tacoma, Wash., I paid $10.00 for the pair. The first painting is labeled D-108929. Diego. Mann mit Müte. The second painting is marked D-108928. Diego. Mann mit Bart. This is not written on the paintings themselves but on a cardboard holding the paintings in the frames. The dimensions are 5 1/16″ x 7″ for both, and that is out of the frame.”
Before you begin your search;
Many of the prospectors for gold were shocked to find their new found metal was “fool’s gold”, not the real thing.
To recognize the real thing in a Diego artwork examine his style and his signatures. Mostly Diego. But in earlier works it could be A.Voci, D.Voci, or just Voci.

When you find your treasure, contact us diegovociproject@gmail.com. We are archiving this master artist’s works as he is being rediscovered by art aficionados everywhere. The values will soon substantially increase as a new generation grabs up the available supply. Diego died in 1985. There won’t be more.

An example from Diego collector James McClean… shares his two Diego paintings “Old Man“ 31 ½ x 24 #1293-9 and “Shepper“ 31 ½ x 24 #1967-68.
“I have 2 Diego paintings each 80 x 60cm. Both were bought in Zweibruecken from Joy Gibson at showings she had at the RCAF base. The first I purchased in the fall of 1968, The Shepherd, and at another showing in 1969 I got The Old Man. Unfortunately my posting to Germany was only for two years otherwise I’m certain that I would have owned more of Diego’s work.
These two paintings have always been the focal point of our living room and my wife and I enjoy them as much today as when we first saw them. Both paintings have been willed to our eldest daughter one of whom was born in Lahr where I was stationed so they will be staying in our family.”
Writings from Diego Collectors builds the notoriety for Diego Voci and all of his works. We would love to hear from more of our Collectors. In fact, consider writing a chapter in first person for the next Diego biography book.
FOOTNOTE: Joy Naffouj (nee. Gibson) is the former Canadian art dealer who influenced the signature change from A. Voci to DIEGO.

In February of 1972, Jack Jolly and his wife Gwen were living in #Wiesbaden, Germany. They’d been there since 1968. While in Wiesbaden, Jack and his wife went to what was then called the General #VonSteuben Hotel, where Diego Voci was hosting an art exhibition with the assistance of Christine Khan. Shown here is the #DIEGO that Jack and Gwen still own today:
An interesting point about the Von Steuben Hotel – it was visited by John F. #Kennedy on June 26, 1963, just before #JFK‘s trip to #Berlin to give his famous historical “Ich Bin ein Berliner” speech. The story goes that Kennedy even received a DIEGO painting as a gift that night signed “Voci”. Read more: http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-antonio-diego-voci-3984818/Page11.html#66975
Jack and Gwen bought the above featured “Two girls with pottery” #639, 32” x 26” oil on canvas, from Diego and Christine. Like many other young families wanting to own at least one of the master’s artworks, Diego offered “Lay-Away” or as Jack writes, “I was 30 years old, had no money, so we purchased it on a time basis. We paid $350 for it and have enjoyed it for over 40 yrs. Amazing!”
Currently Jack and his wife Gwen live in New Orleans to be near Gwen’s family. Jack states, “I’ve been retired for almost 3 yrs. Life is good.”
Shown here is Gwen back in the day, where you can barely see the “Two Girls with Pottery” above her head, but you’ll no doubt recognize the 70’s furniture colors!
