On this day, August 10, we celebrate the 98th birthday of internationally collected artist Antonio “Diego” Voci (1920-1985).

I am Coop Cooprider, Diego Voci Historian. I first met Diego in late 1966. Patti and I bought our first Diego oil painting on layaway, our first of many. We were and remain addicted https://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-history-4330818/Page7.html#98597.  In 1973-74, I volunteered for a year to help Diego become better known. One of those efforts was the 3-page biography in the May 1974 issue of the AFNTV Guide by my ghost writer Victoria Williams.

$30,000 REWARD

WHO OWNS THIS PAINTING NOW?

Diego Voci; “Jeune Fille en Blanc” #641-030 oil on canvas 80x60cm 

“Jeune Fille en Blanc” was purchased back in 1974 by Diego Voci Historian, Coop Cooprider in Diego’s studio when Coop was helping Diego become better known. Diego opened up his studio to visitors and many experienced first hand the “magnetism” of Diego, so captivated by his art and his persona that most walked out with a painting or two in hand. Coop was no exception.

Throughout the years, Coop and his family have traveled and moved between Europe and United States, and along the way this painting has gone missing.

This unique cubistic/surrealist art work takes on the divide between two different styles. Where is the line between the two?

Helga Voci, widow of internationally collected artist Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985) claims I bought this painting “Masques”. It must be so. I’m not claiming the 5th Amendment, but, I swear I don’t recall and I don’t know where it is. Maybe some viewer can remember where they saw this painting last. 37 YEARS AGO A DIEGO VOCI #SOLD $950

On August 8, 1980, Frances Ann Jacobini purchased this attractive Diego Voci (VOH-chee) painting direct from the home / studio of Helga and Diego.  This image is from a 37 year old Polaroid Helga found.  The card indicates Francis paid $950.  It is title “Die Baüerinnen”.  Coop Cooprider, the Diego Voci Historian since 1973 said “If these are farm girls, they come from classier farms than any I have seen.  It looks like are dressed for a Vogue photoshoot.”

The memory of the classic form, always present in the subconscious of this truly modern #artist, gives a higher meaning and a more complex form to the work of DIEGO.  His groups of figures – here again he favors young voluptuous women – produce an almost three #dimensional effect, which is achieved by a competent use of the laws of perspective rather than by optical tricks, as, in the case of the #cubist #paintings. 

Episodes and intellectual adventures, which may at times attract great curiosity and interest among public and critics, bear very little resemblance to the fundamental values of art.  Too many collective and individual phenomena dismay and disappoint art lovers looking at modern art today.  Still, there are some artists who, unaffected by trends and passing fashions, dedicate themselves to the search for truth and beauty.  DIEGO is such a man.”
