THE BIG GIFT TO DIEGO VOCI’S MOTHER

In 1955 the Matriarch of the Voci family was treated to her long awaited religious wish to visit Saint Peters Basilica in Rome.

whole Voci famMessina Arcangela (b. 1880), was granted her wish by 2 of her 3 sons. On her left is her middle son Giuseppe age 42, a musician in the Rome Orchestra; to the right of Messina is her youngest son, our internationally collected artist Antonio Diego Voci age 35, dressed smartly (most likely in clothes of his own making trained at tailoring school in Reggio); To the right of Diego, Maria Teresa Voci, she is the mother to Mario age 13, standing in front of her. To the far right is Tonino age 16, older brother to Mario. Tonino was later killed in an auto accident 2002. Diego was his idol.

Mario, now in his seventies who supplied this family photo said of his “nanna”(Grandmother), “The coolest lady I’ve ever known. Cooler than a refrigerated cucumber“.

Vincenzo, Diego’s oldest brother, at the time of this photo, was the missing brother, a professional designer at Pincus Manufacturing in Philadelphia, his home since he was 15 years old.

Messina’s husband Giuseppe Antonio had passed away. He wanted Diego and his brothers to be tailors and sent them all to tailoring school in Reggio (birthplace of Versace). His advice to Diego who said he wanted to be an artist, Toto [Diego], the God of Art does not give bread“.

DIEGO VOCI EMPATHIZES WITH POOR PEOPLE

Human beings are drawn to emotions in a form of expression that Diego did so well in his portrayal of people on canvas.  Diego empathized with people of lesser means and told their stories with his brushes.  No holding back, Diego captured the raw human face in his works to share the beauty of all walks of life.

The Silvers Family of Colorado shares their “Girl with Pitcher” with the Diego Voci Team, a painting completed during the Joy (Gibson) Naffouj time period.  Joy Naffouj in conversation with Diego one day said “Everyone knows you as Diego… you need to be signing your paintings Diego”.  That was the beginning of the Diego Voci Legacy (1965).

THE CASE OF THE PHANTOM? #VOCI BROTHER

Can anyone out there read #Italian?  Help us!  As DiegoVoci™ #historians we are seeking the truth.

The issue is:

Did, or did not, the deceased father of artist DiegoVoci™, Giuseppe Antonio Voci  have a brother?

In the little town of Gasperina, Province of #Catanzaro, #Italy, the birthplace of DiegoVoci™ resides an elderly gentleman in his nineties who claims he was the best friend of Diego’s father Giuseppe Antonio Voci and he insists did NOT have a brother!

But, what appears to be the images of the official birth records going back 192 years to 1823 from the town’s Registrar of Vital Statistics (“Ufficio dello Stato Civile”) in #Gasperina seem to indicate there was a brother named Saverio.  Two sons appear to be born to the same mother and father Vincenzo Voci (1847) and Elisabetta (neé Procopia).  One of the sons born 1877 was Giuseppe Antonio (Diego’s dad). The other son, Saverio Voci, was born 3 years earlier to the same mother and father.  Therefore the official papers appear that Diego’s father Giuseppe Antonio did have an older brother named Saverio.

Help us with the Italian on the Birth Certificates.  Is the #Gasperina Registrar’s office in error?  Or is the elderly gentleman mistaken?  They can’t both be correct.  It would be highly unlikely there were two sets of Vincenzo and Elizabetta in the same time period?

Here is the evidence from the “Ufficio dello Stato Civile” Comune di Gasperina :

  1. Giuseppe Antonio Voci was born 1877 to Vincenzo Voci and his wife Elisabetta (neé Procopia). 01.26.2015 Giuseppe Antonio Voci Birth Certificates for Website with Marks
  2. 3 years earlier a Saverio Voci was born 1874 to the same parents as Giuseppe Antonio01.26.2015 Saverio Voci Birth Certificate for Website with Marks - Copy

1a. Here is the 1877 signature of the Gasperina official on the birth certificate of Giuseppe Antonio.01.26.2015 Official Lugi signature from Giuseppe Antonio Voci Birth Certificate

1b.  Here is the 1874 signature of the same official on the birth certificate for Saverio, with the same parents for both.  01.26.2015 Official Lugi signature from Saverio Voci Birth Certificate

The questions being asked by members of the Diego side of the Voci family are:  Why haven’t we ever heard there was such a brother? And, if he did exist, what happened to him? Is the Saverio birth certificate suspect?

What do you think?
