YES! ANOTHER DIEGO_VOCI ORIGINAL #CLOWN!

In 1977 Renate #Naviglio met Diego at the  La Gondola Restaurant (*) in Ramstein, #Germany.   So many clowns! Each one with a distinctive personality!

Renate displayed it proudly at her home in Böhlstrasse 30, 673 Neustadt on the #Weinstrasse in #Deutschland. Renate paid 950 DM ( Deutsche Mark) for this clown and his friend theClown in front of the window“).

Where are Renate and her 2 Diego clown friends today? (*Gigi , La Gondola’s owner and Diego were best of friends – see where Diego painted Gigi into the #Albrecht family’s “Clowns” https://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-antonio-diego-voci-3984818/Page12.html#69089 .

In the late 1980’s, somebody stole the classic Diego clown from the #Cooprider Collection.                              There is a $30,000 reward for its return unharmed. https://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118.html#53438

“Vincent” Could Be a Song About Diego Voci

A line in Don McClean’s haunting song about Vincent #VanGogh is “Weathered faces lined in pain are soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand”. The “weathered faces” of people being deported likewise inspired Diego’s hand with brush to canvas.

“We cannot get enough DIEGOs for our collectors. He is exactly the taste of the German people.”

History Speaks “Two Clowns pre-1966 signed “D.Voci”

Clowns Female and Male Pete Paceley

Signature Clown Painting Male

D.Voci signature Pre-1966

Diego Voci Collector Pete Paceley has just sent the Diego Voci Project 2 fresh images.  He first reached out to Artifact Collectors four years ago in 2013 with:

“I have a pair of matching clown paintings (one male playing guitar, one female playing mandolin) signed D. Voci from Germany in the early to mid-1960s. Dimensions of each are approximately 10″ x 19″.  The gold paint is stunning — as if the paintings glow.  They were obtained through a relationship with an Italian restaurant. The owner’s name was Franco and his daughter was Daniella. Does anyone have any information on this connection?”

Helga Voci, widow of Diego, responded with:

The Restaurant Franco I knew, the owner was Franco, he was a friend of Diego, I think the Restaurant was in Kaiserslautern or nearby possibly Baumholder, Diego always displayed paintings there, since Diego`s has passed away I have no contact to him anymore, he had a German wife and a daughter (Daniella) our daughter Alessandra`s age.”

Pete responded back to Artifact Collectors with;

“That area of Germany for the restaurants sounds close — my dad was stationed in Baumholder. I think the restaurant name was Franco’s but I’m not sure. My mom may remember so I’ll check with her.  My dad bought the paintings and my mom gave them to me a few years ago. It could have been prior to 1965, we were in Baumholder 1962-1967.  Speaking with my mom, she remembered meeting Diego and his wife at Franco’s restaurant. She described Diego as very pleasant and friendly.”

Degas Horses Collage

The purpose of including 2 images (positioned in the center in the first set) by Diego is to find them today so we can bring their provenance up to date.  If you see them, contact us at diegovociproject@gmail.com.

All we know to date is the top center one was posted on Artifact Collectors by Nadja, we believe in Germany.  And the bottom center image was purchased originally by Col. Harrington back in 1975.

WHAT WOULD #DIEGO SAY?

“I am always learning, always painting, to fill a need… to express.”  Diego’s exact words.  We want and need more quotes!

First, thanks to Mara, Lars and Stephen for your comments that inspired by the life and art of our hero, Antonio Diego Voci (1920-1985).

Lars, we are so grateful you found Artifact Collector’s (see link http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-antonio-diego-voci-3984818/Page17.html#115141 ) and shared your story with the history your parents have in collecting Diego Voci’s works of art.

ACTION FOR HELP:

Lars, and everyone who knew Diego, we would like to know much more about your personal experiences with Diego every detail to include in the Diego Voci Archive™.  One thing we treasure is the exact words as Diego would express his thoughts from the mundane to the worldly view of the great philosophers; everything in his broken Italian accented English. We are gathering such quotes to publish on Wikiquotes.

What would Diego say when he was smoking a cigarette? (2 packs a day, unfiltered)

Would Diego say anything after a first sip of wine?

What would Diego say when he was frustrated with a painting?  What would he do? Would he stop and say something or did he gesture a frustration?

What were the first words out of Diego’s mouth when a potential collector came thru the door?

What were the first words out of Diego’s mouth when Diego put down his paint brush and knew a painting was done?

What were the first words out of Diego’s mouth when he sold a painting?

What would Diego say over and over and over again to Alessandra?

Helga, what slipped thru Diego’s voice to keep you calm, “quote” in his words?

WHERE IS THE OWNER TODAY OF THIS ANTONIO VOCI?

In January 1965, DIEGO had an exhibition at the Schlossgalerie in #Zurich, #Switzerland.

Notice the reference to the name in the “Neue Züricher Zeitung” newspaper ad “Antonio Voci” not “DIEGO”.

Helga Drössler had been with DIEGO for five years. Thereafter he mostly signed“DIEGO”. Helga and DIEGO married in #Denmark in 1968.

Notice the style. #Realism. Both different from the works DIEGO Collectors are familiar with. It illustrates his #versatility and #craftsmanship (#Picasso painted realism when he first began. So did #Dali).

THE SLEUTHS WHO KNOW FIND #GOLD

Crazy as it may sound, as people search for Diego Voci artworks, people who know are getting bargains from people who don’t know.  The next-to-nothing steals may be gone.  97¢ link http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page4.html#62739, and $10 for a pair of small Diego’s http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page7.html#75454.  There are still about 2,500 Diego oil paintings out there waiting to be discovered and cataloged for the Diego Voci Archive.

These 2 exceptional works were under $1,000 each.  On the left, “Harlequin au bonnet rouge” (31″x23″) and on the right “Madonna” (31″x 16″) without frames.More on them later.
