From the DIEGO Voci Collection ca. 1974, a piece from his glass painting series, the painting titled “Women and Blue Pottery” is done with Glass Paint on canvas.

DIEGO defies being put in a box.  He was constantly experimenting.  Glass paint was a real challenge.  There is no second chance to change the paint once it hits the canvas.  DIEGO’s sure hand is all the more evident in “Women and Blue Pottery”, one of a dozen known DIEGO works with glass paint.

Italy Risks Priceless Riace Bronzes for Cash

“Italian culture minister Dario Franceschini is weighing whether to ship the world-renowned #Riace Bronzes from their home in #Calabria, over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) north to Milan, the Corriere della Sera reports. In the proposed plan, the pair of statues would travel to the next Universal Exposition, EXPO 2015, for a period of six months. However, many experts believe that even a slight movement could result in the nearly 2,500-year-old-statues’ destruction. There’s no telling, they say, what havoc such a lengthy trip could wreak.

Known interchangeably as the Riace Bronzes or the Riace Warriors, the pair of life size statues depict naked Greek warriors and were created between 460–420 BC. They are currently housed at the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia in a climate controlled room on pedestals designed to minimize even the slightest movement due to seismic or other activity. First discovered in 1972, they underwent nine years of conservation before emerging to great fanfare in 1981. They recently underwent a second round of restoration from 2010–2011 while the museum was also undergoing renovations.”

NOT ALL NUDES ARE BEAUTIFUL… OR ARE THEY?

Henri #Matisse and #DiegoVoci were fascinated with the female body, as many master artists were. The #Odalisque in Red Pants Matisse nude, on left valued at $3 million had been stolen, FBI recovered. #Donna Seduta #nude on right was done by #Diego in 1971, oil on wood accented by strokes of Diego’s palette knife scarring the paint. #DIEGO VOCI MASTER PAINTING FOR MUSEUM EXHIBITION

At last we have located this magnificent #Diego Voci #art contribution to the world of #surrealism.

Four and a half years ago, the volunteer Diego Voci Project began its search for the lost art of Antonio Diego Voci.  The existence of this stellar “Composition” was known, but not its whereabouts.  It was seen on the easel in this black and white photo taken about 1966-67, in the living room of Helga and Diego’s rented home/studio in Wiesbaden, Germany (in the middle is their friend Heidi).  See image below.

This exceptional surrealism example was under the bed in the home of the original owners in Lansing, Kansas, due to down-sizing.  Jeri found our websites.    As soon as we learned of this marvelous canvas, we featured it as the May 12, 2014 Painting of the Week.  http://www.artifactcollectors.com/diego-voci-painting-of-the-week-5154118/Page7.html#201.

Last week, the painting arrived at the doorstep of Coop Cooprider, Diego Art Historian.  When the major Diego Museum exhibition takes place, (awaiting a generous benefactor) this “Composition” signed “Diego” with its statuesque rhythm will hold a prominent position among this forgotten artist’s masterworks.
