This painting is one of the very first when the signature “Diego” was applied to his canvas. How do we know?
- Joy Gibson was a Canadian art dealer based in Zweibrucken, Germany. Her stamp is on the back of the canvas.
- Joy was the one who influenced the artist to start signing “Diego” the nickname he was known by (formerly he signed some form of Voci as on the painting given to JFK in 1963 in Wiesbaden).
- This was before Joy married Dr. Jawdat Naffouj and added his last name to hers. Naffouj Gallery remains to this day in Landstuhl, Germany.
Stay alert. A Diego Voci painting may appear anywhere. This one was donated to Goodwill and just auctioned at $500.
